BioNanoLab Students wins National Awards
Members, Students and alumni of the University of Guelph’s Bionanolab directed by Professor Suresh Neethirajan, received numerous awards and won best poster presentation and oral presentation awards at the 2016 Canadian Society for Bioengineering conference held at Halifax, Nova Scotia from July 3 to July 6.
A total of 9 Canadian universities namely Prince Edward Island, Saint Mary’s University, Dalhousie University, McGill University, University of Laval, University of Guelph, University of Manitoba, University of Saskatchewan and the University of Alberta along with researchers from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and researchers from Turkey, USA and Iran universities participated and presented in this national conference. Over 114 papers were presented during this 4 day annual meeting. A total of 11 papers were presented by the members of the Bionano lab of the University of Guelph.
2016 Canadian Society for Bioengineering Best Poster Award Recipients
First Prize – Michael Lissemore – 3rd year Biological Engineering Student of the University of Guelph for the poster titled ‘A Handheld Device for rapid detection of food adulterants using bulk acoustic wave biosensors’.
Third Prize - Isaac Thevathasan – 2nd year Biological Engineering Student of the University of Guelph for the poster titled ‘'In vitro characterisation of Camelina Sativa Antitumor Peptides against colorectal adenocarcinoma Cells'.
2016 Canadian Society for Bioengineering Best Oral Presentation Award
Third Prize – Abdulmonem Murayyan – Research Associate and PhD student of Biological Engineering program of the University of Guelph for the presentation titled ‘'Anticancer Activity of Ontario Grown Onion Varieties - An In-Vitro Study'.
2016 Canadian Society for Bioengineering Best MSc Thesis Award
Nawfal Adam Mungroo for a thesis entitled "SERS based Point-of-care Biosensing System for Food-borne Pathogen Detection" (Advisor: Dr. S. Neethirajan).
